What Rang does with your data

Plain English, and specific rather than general. Every statement below describes what the software actually does today, not what it intends to do.

The short version. Rang holds your name, your school’s name if you give it, and your planning. It holds nothing about any child — there is nowhere in Rang to put a pupil’s name, and no such field exists. Your data sits in Ireland. Nobody else’s account can see it. The calendar, book and publisher plan files you upload to be read are read and then discarded, never stored; the one file Rang keeps is a screenshot you choose to attach to feedback.

Who is responsible

Rang is run by Streamlined Digital Tech Ltd (registered in Ireland, company number 805162), Castleblakeney, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, H53 YA97. For anything about your data, including a request to see it or delete it, write to streamlinedtechai@gmail.com.

What Rang stores

Everything Rang keeps about you, in full:

No pupil data, at all. Rang has no field for a child’s name, no attendance, no assessment of any individual, no behaviour records and no photographs of children. If you find yourself wanting to type a child’s name into Rang, it is the wrong place for it.

Where it is held

Your data is stored in a Postgres database run by Supabase in their eu-west-1 region, which is Ireland. The app itself is served by Vercel. Both are processors acting for Streamlined Digital Tech Ltd; neither uses your planning for anything of their own.

When something is sent to an AI model

Three features pay an AI model to read something you give it: reading your school’s calendar from a photograph, a PDF or a link; reading a book’s contents page from a photograph or a PDF; and reading your own copy of a publisher’s yearly plan or unit plans from a Word document or a PDF. In each case what you upload is sent to Anthropic to be read, and the answer comes back for you to confirm before anything is saved.

The calendar, book or publisher plan file you send to be read is never stored. The document, photograph or PDF is held in memory just long enough to be read, and is then gone. What is saved is what you confirmed, plus the line of text the model says it read each row from, so you can check it against your own document. Nothing is sent to any model unless you press the button that does it, and no feature of Rang reads your planning with an AI model.

The one file Rang does keep is a screenshot you choose to attach to a feedback message. That is stored alongside your message so the problem can be seen, and it goes when you ask us to remove it, or when you delete your account.

Who can see your planning

Only you. Every table in the database is protected row by row, so a request made from any other account cannot return your rows at all — it is enforced by the database itself, not by the app being careful. Pete, who builds Rang, can reach the database as its administrator; he does not read teachers’ planning, and there is no feature anywhere in Rang that shows one teacher another teacher’s work.

Getting your work out, and getting rid of it

Two ways, both always available. Every document Rang produces — long-term plans, fortnightly plans, the tick sheet, the Cúntas Míosúil, your timetable and your day — prints to A4 from your browser with no logo and no watermark, and saves as a PDF from the print dialogue. And Settings has a Download everything button that writes one JSON file holding all of it: your class, calendar, books, plans, every lesson with its tick and its frozen record, and every signed Cúntas exactly as you signed it. That file reads back without Rang. Your long-term plans also download as Word, PDF or Excel from the Plans page; bringing a long-term plan of your own in from a Word file is the part still not built.

Ask at the address above and you will be sent everything Rang holds about you, or have it deleted. Deleting is real deletion, not hiding: your class and everything hanging off it goes with it. Signed Cúntas records are deliberately not editable inside Rang — signing is meant to freeze them — but they are yours and they go too if you ask for your account to be removed.

Cookies

Rang sets one thing in your browser: the session that keeps you signed in. There is no analytics, no advertising pixel and no third-party tracker on any page, so there is no cookie banner to click, because there is nothing to consent to.

Paying for it

Rang is free while it is in early access, and no payment system is connected yet — there is nowhere in Rang to enter a card, and no card details exist because none can be taken. When payments do arrive the plan is EUR 10 a month with a 14-day free trial, and this page will say who processes the payment before that happens.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to how it is used, or complain to the Data Protection Commission. Write to the address above and you will get an answer.

Honest about this page. It was written by reading Rang’s own code and database, so it is accurate about what the software does. It is a plain-English statement rather than a lawyer’s document, and it has not been reviewed by a solicitor. If you are deciding whether Rang meets your school’s data-protection obligations, ask and you will get a straight answer about anything not covered here.
